I work with a fantastic group of people, but like in any other corporation, the people running the show have no clue about day-to-day operations and could give a shit about the "little people". Sad, but true.
A couple of months ago, a new group of managers and supervisors took over my group. They have yet to ask me (or anyone else "below" them) how or why things are run like they are; they have yet to ask me (or anyone else beneath them) to explain what's going on; they have yet to interview my employees or my peers looking for problems or answers or improvements. They've just done what they think is their right as new management, which is to bust our balls for small indiscretions, including having fun, taking more breaks than allowed, and ignoring bullshit rules that mess up our customer service.
They've shown no courtesy, respect, or clue towards us or how we do things. We've not been consulted once about why we run things the way we do.
Since the company I work for is chain-of-command, forget about looking up for help. I can't believe a company in 2007 would still have the same lack of respect for their workers as those companies 100 years ago and then wonder about turnovers and poor attitude. Not to mention that they pay absolutely pathetic wages for 2007 (excuse me, unless you're management).
Grow up, people. You run an entertainment business but treat your people like thieves, give them little or no recourse to "out" poor management with no open-door policy, and offer few incentives for good performances because merit raises often don't happen and less than 40-hour work weeks are mandatory to guarantee that they don't have benefits or overtime? And you're surprised at reports of poor service or turnover?
